Sylvia Karpinsky - Master Director

Sylvia Karpinsky brings with her an extensive music background  and a formidable list of accomplishments in Sweet Adelines– not the least of which is as the tenor in the 1991 International Championship Quartet SWING STREET.

Sylvia has also directed two choruses in Regional Competition,  the second of which took first place with a score over 600 points,  landing her the designation as a Master Director. She has been a master of ceremonies for Sweet Adelines competitions in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.
    Sy
lvia is a former member of Great Lakes chorus as well.

Her home is in Sterling Heights with her husband and two teenage sons. Bowser the toy poodle rounds out the family. She sings soprano in the Immaculate Conception Ukranian Catholic Church choir and plays the flute. Her hobbies are water skiing, walking, reading and wave-running.

She is a 25-year Hamtramck elementary school teacher. She has been a vocal music teacher for kindergarten through fifth grade students for five years.

With her list of tremendous abilities in directing and singing,  Sylvia brings an energetic love of barbershop harmony with her and we enjoy her talents and time with us more than we can say.

Our Associate Director

Peggi Starkey

Sweet Adelines has been a part of Peggi's life since 1981. She has been a member of three different choruses: River District, Seaway Sounds (where she was Assistant Director) and Great Lakes Chorus. She has achieved the Status of Certified Director within Sweet Adelines.

Peggi has a Music Education Degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. A busy lady, she currently teaches private piano and voice lessons and directs her church adult choir as well as working part-time in a chiropractor's office.

Peggi  helps us each week with all aspects of improving our singing. Her talents are evident often as she directs the chorus and small groups at performances and shows throughout the year. Peggi's experiences with Sweet Adelines also include competing on the Regional level as a member of the quartet Wake-Up Call and is currently singing Tenor with her new quartet DCQ!

She is married to Al and has two grown children, Reed and Jill.

We are very fortunate to have Peggi share her many musical talents with Great Lakes Chorus.
